Mike Maples, MD – Family Medicine Faculty
Mike enjoys the full scope of family medicine, caring for families throughout their life cycle. He is committed to patient education, to help patients understand their wellness needs, and to make informed decisions regarding their illness care. He is a graduate of the University of Washington School of Medicine. He did his family medicine residency at University Hospital in Seattle, completing that training in 1983. After graduation, Mike moved to Yakima, where he practiced for six years. In 1989, he returned to Seattle to assume a faculty position at the Group Health Residency Program and completed the UW Family Medicine Faculty Development Fellowship, learning the skills needed to teach physicians in the specialty of family medicine. In 1992, he returned to Yakima to become the founding director of the CWFM residency program. Dr. Maples was named Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CWFM in 2003. Mike and his wife, also a physician, have two teenage sons. His interests outside of work and family include gardening, cooking, snowboarding, whitewater rafting and hiking. He also enjoys watching and listening to jazz and other performances in which his sons are involved.
