For many years, Russell served as site coordinator for the University of Washington required third year clerkship in family medicine and the elective fourth-year sub-internship. His residency administration experience includes two years as Associate Program Director prior to assuming the position of Program Director in 2005. Russell is very active in community health initiatives. He chaired the successful city-wide fluoridation campaign and currently serves on the board of the Washington Dental Service Foundation. Russell and his wife, also a physician, have three kids, two dogs and a hedgehog. The family enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, backpacking, camping, biking, and snow skiing.
